Changes in plans...

A few changes have been made to YEAR OF THE KING as I prepare to launch it:

  • THE COVER design was not going as planned. With no money to pay a designer or to purchase art to go in to the cover, I had to rethink the look. Everything that Chris Mori and I tried just looked wrong (I wanted to add future soldiers and robots to Elvis' sunglasses). I can't have just Elvis, because that doesn't say science fiction or military fiction or future America. It says book about Elvis. So I took the flag I made (that Chris originally helped conceive) and added a brush spatter filter to it. I also decided to add the story's date to the title so that, along with this re-imagined flag, I could convey the idea of a future America. I love Chris's original cover and hope to use it one day (with the desired art), but it's just not in the cards. Maybe when I publish the whole enchilada next year.
  • THE EPISODES are now being called PARTS again, because while episodic, I didn't want readers to expect book-ended installments that always finished with a cliff-hanger. I also don't want to change YOTK too much in order to support that concept. YOTK is already a complete screenplay with an intact plot.
  • THE SERIAL idea is not gonna happen either, because I've noticed that Amazon no longer even offers/highlights the Serials on their page on Kindle anymore. How would anyone EVER even think to browse for such a thing? So I am just going to publish each part each month for 99 cents. With just six parts planned, it would only cost readers $6 to own the complete book.
So all that being said, here is the new design for Part One of YOTK.
