Changes in plans...

A few changes have been made to YEAR OF THE KING as I prepare to launch it:

  • THE COVER design was not going as planned. With no money to pay a designer or to purchase art to go in to the cover, I had to rethink the look. Everything that Chris Mori and I tried just looked wrong (I wanted to add future soldiers and robots to Elvis' sunglasses). I can't have just Elvis, because that doesn't say science fiction or military fiction or future America. It says book about Elvis. So I took the flag I made (that Chris originally helped conceive) and added a brush spatter filter to it. I also decided to add the story's date to the title so that, along with this re-imagined flag, I could convey the idea of a future America. I love Chris's original cover and hope to use it one day (with the desired art), but it's just not in the cards. Maybe when I publish the whole enchilada next year.
  • THE EPISODES are now being called PARTS again, because while episodic, I didn't want readers to expect book-ended installments that always finished with a cliff-hanger. I also don't want to change YOTK too much in order to support that concept. YOTK is already a complete screenplay with an intact plot.
  • THE SERIAL idea is not gonna happen either, because I've noticed that Amazon no longer even offers/highlights the Serials on their page on Kindle anymore. How would anyone EVER even think to browse for such a thing? So I am just going to publish each part each month for 99 cents. With just six parts planned, it would only cost readers $6 to own the complete book.
So all that being said, here is the new design for Part One of YOTK.

The end is nigh!

I finished proofing and editing Episode 2, but need to rewrite the very last paragraph of it. It's just not right yet. I know what I want to say, but I am not saying it we'll enough.

This isn't a big problem. YOTK was a screenplay first and is a serial novel so nothing has changed plotwise. Since it's been elaborated on, it needs to have an impactful, episodic ending.

I just need some time to reword what I have.

Episode 2 of YOTK almost complete

I finished writing Episode 2: Pressure Points of YOTK over a week ago, but I'm still proofing/editing it (which always takes longer than you think). It's amazing how many mistakes you find or changes you wish to make upon each reading. I will hopefully have a final version done by the weekend.

That being said, it really is turning out fantastic in novel form and picks up nicely where Episode 1: Special Delivery leaves off.

Episodes 1 and 2...

I have completed Episode 1 of YOTK and am near completion of editing Episode 2. If I can get these done and finalize a cover with Chris Mori, I will then write to Amazon and send them the two completed parts in hopes of them admitting YOTK to their Serial Program. I would like to pub the first episode of the book on January 8th, which is Elvis Presley's birthday. From there I would hope to complete a new episode every 2-4 weeks with the story culminating on August 16, the anniversary of "the King's" death.

I'm looking to publish it as a serial on Amazon.com with a planned Launch Date of January 8th—Elvis Presley's birthday!

I hope this all works out as planned and that you all take the journey with me.

Updates to come.

The Future Flag of America

Here's a look at the design for YOTK's future flag of America:

The red and white stripes representing the original 13 states still appear along with the stars that represent the nation's remaining 25 and 2 half states (with Kansas being the large center star).
